Hi –
I am reaching out because we still have a great need for volunteers to help with various tasks at Bites. Thank you if you have already signed up; if you can help with any of the following I would really appreciate it. I will even enter you on the signup genius so you don’t have to do it! Transporting baskets to the school – still need 5 more people (2:30-3:00) Watching silent auction baskets (there will now be people at school for performances starting at 4:30, so we really need a few people to watch the baskets as volunteers go to see their kids perform)
Set-up from 3pm – 5pm (you can leave to see your kids perform whenever you need to) – need 8 Help serve food (Abe’s & Mario’s Pizza) – 6:45-8:30 – can be students (service hours provided) Thanks so much for all you guys have done so far. If you can think of others who might help, please ask them…I don’t have lots of emails and we’ve already sent this out via the Booster Club and Band Buzz multiple times. Anne ahbernay@comcast.net Dear Band and Color Guard,
Please see below or check the band calendar for details regarding instrument sectionals this week. Anne Bernay has lots of information in this email about Bites at the Lake, so please keep reading! Have a great week, Jennifer McBurnett VP — Communications BITES AT THE LAKE bites_at_lake_2019_flyer bites_at_the_lake_ticket_order_form 2019 Section Basket Flyer Hello Band Parents, Bites at the Lake, our epicurean night fundraiser, is a month away. We really appreciate your help supporting the event. Section Baskets Your student should have brought home a flyer about the section baskets last week. It is attached in case you did not receive it. The section baskets, along with ticket sales, raise a lot of money at the event — funds that help pay for uniforms, instruments, contest fees, clinicians, and more! Please send in donations for the baskets by February 1 and help your student's section win a Chik-fil-A or Chipotle lunch. Ticket Sales Tickets for Bites at the Lake are only $12 in advance and $15 at the door. We will have 15-20 restaurants serving fabulous food at the event and over 50 auction items to bid on — you don't want to miss out! Please plan to attend and invite your family and friends to join us. The attached form can be used to sell tickets. New this year — tickets can be purchased online at bit.ly/BitesTickets . So please help us get the word out and people in the door! If you have any questions about Bites at the Lake, please contact Anne Bernay at batl@clhsband.org . Thank you! Please see below or check the band calendar for details regarding instrument sectionals this week. For those students who made region band, the clinic and concerts are Friday and Saturday, see below for details. Anne Bernay is accepting donations for Bites at the Lake sections baskets through Feb. 1 so please read and see the attachment for details. Bites at the Lake tickets will be for sale beginning Jan. 28! Have a great week, Jennifer McBurnett VP — Communications BITES AT THE LAKE Bites at the Lake Silent Auction Section Baskets — Donations Due February 1 Every year, the band students donate items and money to create amazing baskets for the Bites at the Lake silent auction. The baskets are a huge part of the success of the silent auction. Thank you in advance for helping make our tenth annual event a success! The attached flyer details the sections and the basket themes, along with some ideas for basket items. If you like to shop, you can purchase items locally or use the Amazon wish list (bit.ly/BandBaskets). Or you can donate gift cards or cash that we can combine to purchase items for the baskets. A little “friendly” competition between the sections last year resulted in the Clarinets & Bass Clarinets enjoying a Chik-fil-A lunch for the most participation. The competition is back again this year and TWO sections can win a lunch: for Most Participation and Highest Value Basket. Chipotle is donating one of the lunches and the Band Boosters are once again donating the Chik-fil-A lunch. So get those donations in! Please put your name and instrument on your donation so that we can credit your section. If you order through Amazon, send a quick email to ahbernay@clhsband.org so that we know who to credit. Thank you so much for supporting the band! Contact ahbernay@clhsband.org if you have Want to get involved? Contact Anne Bernay, Bites at the Lake Chairperson, at ahbernay@clhsband.org if you are interested in helping with the event. In order to participate in this contest, the following information MUST be submitted to the band directors by Friday, January 11th:
Next week, students will sign up for rehearsal times with their respective piano accompanists. They will also be responsible for paying their piano players at the first rehearsal, and the fee is $40 for a class 1 solo, $35 for a class 2 or 3. This fee covers the 2 rehearsals, as well as the contest performance. The week of February 9th, we will email a performance schedule for the contest. Thank you for your help in this matter, and we look forward to a great spring semester! Loren Gray Clear Lake High School Assistant Band Director 281-284-2027 December 3, 2017
Hello Falcon Band and Color Guard Students/Parents, Attached is this week’s Falcon Band Buzz Calendar Reminder for December 4 – Saturday, December 9, 2017. Region Band Auditions begin this week. If you plan on picking up your student after their audition, be sure and complete an Alternate Transportation Form and turn it in to the Band Director. The third payment for the Spring Trip is due on Friday, December 8th. Please see Mary Anne Plaza’s note below regarding dessert donations for the upcoming Winter Concert on Thursday, December 14th. Any pre-ordered Holiday Plants and/or Butter Braid® pastries will be delivered to you at the Winter Concert. Pick-up instructions are below. Thank you to everyone who placed orders. The funds received will help support the Band program. If your student is in the Full Orchestra, the Orchestra Winter Concert will be on Wednesday, December 13th. Below is an explanation about the upcoming UIL Region Band Auditions and the UIL Region, Area and State calendar. Have a great week, Suzanne Rupp 2ND VP – Communications UIL REGION AUDITIONS EXPLAINED UIL Region Auditions are an opportunity for students to audition and compete against other high school students in their designated region. The top performing students have an opportunity to advance to their designated Area Audition. The finest musicians from Area advance to State. For the purpose of UIL Music Competition the state is divided into 7 areas, which are broken down further into 28 geographical regions. CLHS is in Region 17 Area E. Region and Area alignment is determined based on a combination of geographic and population factors. Each region offers competition in band, choir and orchestra as well as solo and ensemble competition and medium ensemble competition. Students that qualify at Region Orchestra and/or at Region Phase 2 for High School Region Band will have the opportunity to participate in a Clinic and showcase their talent in a concert. Students who advance to State participate in a four day clinic/concert in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) which takes place in February. The Band Directors will be passing out information on the various Region Auditions. A small fee will be required per student to participate. Transportation is normally provided on school days from CLHS to the high school where auditions are taking place. Once all auditions for the evening are completed, students will then be transported back to CLHS. If you choose to pick up your student after their audition, an Alternative Transportation Form must be completed and turned into the Band Director prior to the audition date. Types of Auditions 9th Grade Region (Nov 28) – Freshmen have an opportunity for a Region audition competing only against other freshmen. This is a great opportunity to experience Region Auditions. In intermediate school, region auditions were against other CCISD students. Auditions are against all schools in our region. After their audition, students are ranked by their instrument. There is no advancement to other auditions in Freshmen Region. Interested freshmen can also participate in the Region Orchestra and the Region Auditions. Phase 1 and Phase 2 Region Auditions (Dec 8 – 11) – This region audition is open to all high school students. Wind Ensemble students are required to participate. Larger groups of instruments have auditions in both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 is spread across 2 days, and the student attends only on the day his/her instrument is scheduled. Smaller groups of instruments do not have a Phase 1, but participate in the Non-Phased group on December 8th. The top scoring students in Phase 1 advance to Phase 2. The scores in Phase 2 determine which students earn the ranking of Region Band or District Band. Region Band ranked students participate in the Region Clinic/Concert on January 19 and 20, 2018. Students who rank the highest also advance to the Area Audition scheduled in January. Area Auditions (Jan 13) – A select number of students who performed at the top in their Region Audition advance to Area Audition. Four regions feed into our Area. After this audition, the top ranking students advance to State at Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) in San Antonio. State (Feb 14-17) - Top ranking musicians from the state of Texas come together at TMEA, which is scheduled February 14 – 17, 2018. Students who qualify as State have the opportunity and privilege to participate in a 4 day clinic. The students audition, and per their ranking are placed in a ranking of concert bands or full orchestras. They work in clinics with esteemed conductors and on the final day of TMEA showcase their talent in a concert. Parents and family are welcome to attend these concerts. LUSH FLOWERS Think of Lush Flowers for Hostess Gifts, your Christmas and Holiday Decorations, and Winter Formal. Lush Flowers is located at 1131 Clear Lake City Blvd Houston, TX 77062. 281.486.5874 EMPLOYER MATCHING FUNDS Minimal effort needed from you > maximum benefit for our band program Band parents, The Falcon Band Booster Club corporate fundraising committee is asking for your help to expand our corporate matching gift fundraising effort. Many companies offer a charitable matching gifts program as a benefit to their employees. So far this school year, the band booster club has received matching gifts program checks from BP and Quantlab with checks from Albemarle and Morgan Stanley on their way. Does your employer offer a charitable matching gifts program so we can add their name to this list? It only takes a minute for you to find out and if the answer is “yes”, the paperwork only takes a few minutes to complete but the benefits to our band program are tremendous. Is your employer also Albemarle, BP, Morgan Stanley or Quantlab? If so, we know they match charitable donations to music programs such as ours. The money received from employer matching gifts serves all band and color guard students by partially or completely paying for the cost of many important parts of our program including private music lessons, percussion and color guard technical support, props for the marching band and winter guard shows, instruments and trailers maintenance, and the annual banquet. Please contact Jennifer Green (maryjennifergreen1@gmail.com), CLHS Band Booster Club Corporate Fundraising lead, for assistance completing your company’s charitable matching gifts program paperwork. Dear Band and Color Guard,
Please pay close attention to the calendar this week because it's busy! MONDAY Wind ensemble and symphonic bands practice Monday afternoon; see below for times. TUESDAY The winter concert begins at 7PM, and the directors will let the students know what time to arrive. Girls wear black dresses and shoes; boys, tuxedos, tux shirts, bow ties, cummerbunds, black shoes and long black socks. Please see the attached sign-up for HOLIDAY TREAT HELP (!!!). We still need someone to watch over the treat table during the wind ensemble performance! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084daaae29a4fb6-winter (before the concert) BUTTER BRAIDS will be delivered before the concert so if you ordered, it would be a good idea to bring an ice chest for storage during the concert. If you ordered HOLIDAY PLANTS, pick up your envelope BEFORE the concert from the table outside of the auditorium. Your envelope will have a ticket for each plant purchased. Volunteer info here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084eaaaa2fa2fa7-poinsettia (after the concert) At the close of the concert, volunteers will be at the front of the stage at three spots to distribute plants. Please give your tickets to one of the volunteers and your plants will be brought to you. See attached for more information. FRIDAY/SATURDAY/MONDAY (REGION BAND PROCESS EXPLAINED!) Non-Phased, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Region Auditions (Dec 7 — 10) — This region audition is open to all high school students. Wind Ensemble students are required to participate. Smaller groups of instruments (non-phased) and phase 1 percussion audition on Friday. Phase 2 percussion and larger groups of instruments audition in Phase 1 on Saturday. The top scoring students in Phase 1 advance to Phase 2 on Monday. See the bottom of this email or the band calendar to determine which instruments are non-phased and phased. The students who make region band participate in the Region Clinic/Concert on Dec. 14-15 at Clear Lake High School. Those who rank the highest advance to the Area Audition scheduled in January. Transportation is provided on school days from CLHS to the high school where auditions are taking place. Once all auditions for the evening are completed, students will then be transported back to CLHS. If you choose to pick up your student after their audition, an Alternative Transportation Form (can be found at clhsband.org) must be completed and turned in to a director PRIOR to the audition date.
