Dear Band and Color Guard,
Region orchestra auditions take place today at Alvin HS; freshman region, tomorrow. If your child will not be riding the bus, the directors must have an alternate transportation form on file (see clhsband.org for form). If the directors do not receive an alternate transportation form, they will assume that your child will be riding the bus. At the end of the evening, they cannot leave until everyone is accounted for. Parents, please let the directors know if you will be picking up your child from Alvin HS by returning this form. The bus will depart from the front of the building at 2 pm, and students will return to CLHS after all auditions are finished, usually around 10 pm. Students are advised to bring money for concessions or make other plans for dinner. There are no nearby restaurants and students may not leave Alvin HS to go eat.
See the band calendar or the summary below for events the rest of the week.
Have a great week, Jennifer McBurnett, VP — Communications

UIL REGION AUDITION INFORMATION
UIL Region Auditions are an opportunity for students to audition and compete against other high school students. The top-performing students have an opportunity to advance to their designated Area Audition. The finest musicians from Area advance to State. For the purpose of UIL band, the state is divided into 8 areas, which are broken down further into 33 geographical regions. CLHS is in Region 17 Area H. Region and Area alignment is determined based on a combination of geographic and population factors. Each region offers competition in band, choir and orchestra as well as solo and ensemble competition.
Students who qualify at Region Orchestra and/or at Region for High School Region Band will have the opportunity to participate in a Clinic and showcase their talent in a concert. Students who advance to State participate in a four-day clinic/concert in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) which takes place in February.
Transportation is normally provided on school days from CLHS to the high school where auditions are taking place. Once all auditions for the evening are completed, students will then be transported back to CLHS. If you choose to pick up your student after their audition, an Alternative Transportation Form must be completed and turned into the Band Director prior to the audition date.

OTHER TYPES OF AUDITIONS
Phase 1 and Phase 2 Region Auditions (Dec 6 — 9)
This region audition is open to all high school students. Wind Ensemble students are required to participate. Larger groups of instruments have auditions in both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 is spread across 2 days, and the student attends only on the day his/her instrument is scheduled. Smaller groups of instruments do not have a Phase 1 but participate in the Non-Phased group on December 6th. The top-scoring students in Phase 1 advance to Phase 2. The scores in Phase 2 determine which students earn the ranking of Region Band or District Band. Region Band ranked students participate in the Region Clinic/Concert on December 13-14. Students who rank the highest also advance to the Area Audition scheduled in January.
Area Auditions (Jan 11)
A select number of students who performed at the top in their Region Audition advance to Area Audition. Four regions feed into our Area. After this audition, the top-ranking students advance to State at Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) in San Antonio.
State (Feb 12-16)
Top ranking musicians from the state of Texas come together at TMEA, which is scheduled February 12 — 16. Students who qualify as State have the opportunity and privilege to participate in a 4-day clinic. The students audition, and per their ranking are placed in a ranking of concert bands or full orchestras. They work in clinics with esteemed conductors and on the final day of TMEA showcase their talent in a concert. Parents and family are welcome to attend these concerts.

BUTTER BRAID FUNDRAISER STARTS TOMORROW!
Please see attachment for information about the Butter Braid fundraiser that starts TOMORROW, Friday, November 1, 2019.
This year we have a new option: Now anyone can order and pay for Butter Braids through an online link. In order for this online ordering process to work, students will create their own unique online store link to send electronically to anyone who wants to order Butter Braids (parents are able to create this unique online store link in their student's name). The attachment also explains how to set up the student's unique online store link.
If anyone has any questions regarding the Butter Braids fundraiser or the online order link, please feel free to contact Sam Houston at 832-407-8375.

Dear Band and Color Guard,
Congratulations to the band for earning all 1s at UIL yesterday, and as always, thanks to all the parent volunteers.
This week, the full band rehearses Wednesday and Thursday from 3-5:30 PM. Note that Monday's practice has been canceled. The game Friday is against Clear Falls HS, 7 PM, at Challenger Columbia Stadium.

Read below for information about volunteers needed to help wash uniforms, poinsettias for sale, and news from the band council.
Have a great week, Jennifer McBurnett, VP — Communications

HELP WASH MARCHING UNIFORMS
It's time to wash the marching uniforms again, so we need parent volunteers to help. They are 100% machine washable, so anyone who is familiar with washing clothes and has access to a washing machine can help. The band will provide the detergent as well. We need around 20 volunteers so that each person only has about 10 uniforms to wash.
After the students return from THIS Friday's game against Falls (10/25), please come into the band hall to pick up uniforms to wash over the weekend. The uniforms need to be returned to the band hall on Monday, 10/28: right after school or when practice ends at 5:30 PM.
If you are available to help us clean uniforms, sign up here! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f49a9ab22aafa7-uniform3

DECK YOUR HALLS WITH FESTIVE HOLIDAY PLANTS
Now is the time to order your holiday plants from the Falcon Band Booster Club. Support your favorite band and decorate for the season at the same time!
The gorgeous Poinsettias, exotic Holiday Cactus, and Norfolk Pines arrive in 6" pots with gold wrappers and are only $15 each! Poinsettias are available in both red and white. For something a little different, try a red holiday cactus or a fresh-smelling Norfolk Pine. These lush plants make splendid gifts, too!
The fundraiser runs from Friday, October 25th through Friday, November 8th. If you are interested in the white poinsettias, be sure to submit your order early — the number of these unique plants may be limited.
Order forms will be given to band students and are also available from the band website www.clhsband.org. If you have any questions, please contact Anne Anguiano at poinsettias@clhsband.org
The plants must be picked up following the Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 4th.
Please see attached for the flyer.

NEWS FROM THE BAND COUNCIL
Hey band!
Awesome job at UIL! We had a great week of rehearsals and it really paid off. I'm so proud to be a part of what we have accomplished so far and I am so excited to see what is to come!
Parents and students, if you have any pictures from band events so far this year, please send them to falconbandhistorian@gmail.com.
Some of you may have already noticed the fliers in the band hall, but this is an announcement that we are having a HALLOWEEN REHEARSAL! Come dressed in a single or group costume and participate in a contest judged by the directors. I am so excited to see what awesome costumes y'all come up with!
With pride, Rebecca Vicary Band Council President

Dear Band and Color Guard,

It’s homecoming week (again)!

October’s FBBC meeting will take place Tuesday at 7PM in the band hall. Important topics of discussion will be the upcoming Gulf Coast Classic and pending fate of Bites at the Lake.

The full band rehearses Monday and Thursday from 3-6PM and Wednesday 3-4:30PM. On Wednesday, the band needs to be in HEAT UNIFORMS for the homecoming parade that begins at 5:30. The parade will go from Falcon Pass Elementary to the JV field for a pep rally. They will be done around 7PM.

There will be no rehearsal Friday. On Saturday, October 5, there will be a 1PM football game against Alvin at Challenger Columbia Stadium, so we will have a 9AM run through.

See the attached flyer from the cheerleader booster club for details about Chick-fil-A at the parade.

The band will wear FULL UNFORMS for the football game this week. Students need to wear the new shorts under the bibbers, so the parts of the uniform are the same as the heat uniform except for LONG black socks.

Have a great week,
Jennifer McBurnett, VP – Communications

Schedule Changes next week

9/27/2019

Parents and Students, There are a few minor adjustments to our schedule in the coming days. Please be aware that our performance time for tomorrow's competition in Friendswood has been moved up 15 minutes to 3:45. We will keep the rehearsal tomorrow morning at 11:00, so please be sure you/your child arrives with plenty of time to get their equipment together and on the rehearsal parking lot by then. Please park or drop your child off in the front of the building, as there will be a TIFI football game on the turf field and a lot of traffic in the back parking lot. Next week, the homecoming parade was moved up to 5:30 on Wednesday. We will therefore cut rehearsal at 4:30 and tack the lost hour onto the Monday and Thursday rehearsals. So next week we will rehearse from 3:00-6:00 on Monday and Thursday, and 3:00-4:30 on Wednesday. Students will need to be in heat uniform on Wednesday for the parade at 5:30. They will be done around 7:00 on Wednesday. There will be no rehearsal Friday, and Saturday, October 5, will be a 1:00 football game, so we will have a 9:00 am run through. Students should be in game shirts tonight, and show shirts tomorrow. Thank you,
John Pearce
